Terms of sale and use
The agreement between you and us when you buy something or use your page.

Who you are dealing with
scanthis.uk is run by James Gough, trading as ScanThis, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom.
You can reach us at hello@scanthis.uk. Our full contact details, including a postal address, are at the bottom of this page.
We are not VAT registered, so no VAT is charged on our prices.
Your account
You need an account to buy from us, because the link behind your code lives in it. Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
You must be at least 18 to buy from us. If you are under 18 you can still use a code someone has bought for you.
Ordering
Placing an order is an offer to buy. The contract is formed when we email you to confirm it. If we cannot make your order — for example if the words you asked us to engrave are something we will not put on a product — we will tell you and refund you in full.
Prices are shown on the product pages and include UK delivery. We only deliver within the United Kingdom.
We aim to make and post orders within 3 working days. That is a target rather than a promise. If something is going to take longer, we will tell you.
Engraving
You choose the words engraved on your product. Please check them carefully before ordering, including spelling — we engrave exactly what you type.
We will not engrave anything unlawful, offensive, or that infringes somebody else's rights. If you order something we will not make, we will refund you rather than make it.
The preview on the website is a guide. Wood is a natural material and grain, colour and tone vary between items.
Your code and your page
Every product carries a code that is unique to you. You choose where that code sends people — an outside link, or a page you build on our site. You can change it as often as you like, free of charge.
Changing your link is included in the price of the product. There is no subscription needed to keep it working.
How long the service runs
We intend to keep your code working for as long as ScanThis operates. We cannot promise it will run forever, and it would be dishonest to say otherwise.
If we ever have to close the service, we will give you at least 90 days notice by email to the address on your account, so you have time to tell people your link is changing.
We may occasionally need to take the site offline for maintenance. We will keep that as short as we can.
What you may put on your page
Your page is published on our website, so what goes on it matters to us. You must not use it for anything that is:
- unlawful, or that encourages anything unlawful
- abusive, harassing, hateful or threatening
- sexual content, or anything unsuitable for children
- a scam, a phishing attempt, or deliberately misleading
- somebody else's photos, words or trade marks, used without permission
- somebody else's personal information, shared without their agreement
You keep ownership of everything you upload. You give us permission to store it and show it to anyone who scans your code, which is the whole point of the service.
If we believe a page breaks these rules we may switch it off, with or without warning depending on how serious it is. Where we reasonably can, we will email you first. Anyone can report a page to us at hello@scanthis.uk.
ScanThis Pro
Pro is an optional monthly subscription that adds extra features. It renews automatically each month until you cancel, and you can cancel any time from your account page.
Cancelling stops the next payment. Your Pro features keep working until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not refund part months.
Everything that is free today stays free. Pro only ever adds to what you already have.
If something goes wrong
Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer. Goods we sell must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality.
We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking this agreement or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, or for business losses.
We do not limit our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
One thing worth saying plainly: a QR code is a convenience, not a safety device. Please do not rely on one alone to reunite you with a lost pet or possession. Microchips, tags with a phone number engraved on them, and other conventional methods all still matter.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the business changes. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you ordered. If we make a significant change affecting your account, we will email you.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes can be brought in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings there.
